Elution with dichloromethane/methanol (0 to 10%) gave a pale yellow solid which was dissolved in dichloromethane (2 mL), Ethereal HCl (IM; LOmL) was added and the solvent evaporated. The residue was triturated under ether (1 mL) and filtered to give the title compound as a colourless solid; MS (ES+ve): [M+H]+ at m/z 399 (C2IH26N4O2S requires [M+H]+ at m/z 399).

[0050] To a solution of 2-thiazolidinone (4.15 g, 40.18 mmol) in acetonitrile (60 ml) were added potassium carbonate (13.3 g 96.2 mmol), N,N-dimethyl-3-aminopropyl chloride hydrochloride (7.63 g, 48.3 mmol), and 18-crown-6 (catalytic amount).
